Applications of resins and ready-to-use protective coatings

Choose your task: select a resin as a raw material for formulations, or a ready-to-use coating for metal. Each approach requires different input data and testing.

Ready-to-use materials

Coating vehicles and metal

When you need a material to apply to a surface, start with the object, substrate and service conditions.

Protective coatings for metal surfaces

The AKRYL system includes epoxy primer, polyurethane primer surfacer, enamel and clearcoat. Materials can be requested as a system or individually.

For paint and other formulation manufacturers, the sections below cover resins as raw materials. This is a different type of technical enquiry.

Resins as raw materials: applications

Choose an industry if you incorporate a resin into your own formulation. Each page describes the raw material's role, selection criteria and test programme.

Structure

How to choose an application for your formulation

Major industries are separated only where the customer's task, process and search criteria differ.

Coatings and printing

  • Alkyd coatings: binder formulation, drying and film properties.
  • Protective coatings: substrate, layer structure and service durability.
  • Printing inks: rheology, transfer, setting and print quality.
  • Road markings: application, film formation and field wear.

Compounds and mineral systems

  • Rubber products and tyres: mixing, vulcanisation and product properties.
  • Bitumen: compatibility, addition procedure and stability.
  • Foundry: moulding mixture and trial casting.
  • Impregnation: substrate, penetration, consumption and drying.
  • Clay targets: moulding, storage, launching and breakability.

A consistent process

How we turn an industrial enquiry into a test

A consistent sequence helps avoid an arbitrary grade choice or an irrelevant commercial proposal.

01

Define the task

Final material, resin function, matrix and current product.

02

Set the criteria

Measurable properties to retain or change.

03

Check the batch

Actual batch documentation, availability and an initial shortlist of products.

04

Test and scale up

Control sample, laboratory series and pilot-scale testing.

Clear qualification

Limitations in resin selection

  • We do not promise a direct one-to-one replacement of your current resin.
  • We do not position dark resins with an odour as water-white raw materials for transparent decorative applications.
  • We do not group road markings with adhesives, PSA or all hot-melt systems.
  • We do not create thin SEO pages for mentions without sufficient confirmed technical data.

FAQ

Questions about product applications

The selection approach depends on whether you manufacture a formulation or choose a ready-to-use material for surface coating.

Which industries use AKRYL resins?

Confirmed applications include alkyd and protective coatings, rubber compounds and tyres, bituminous formulations, foundry, printing inks, road markings, impregnation and clay targets.

How do raw materials for paints differ from ready-to-use coatings?

The manufacturer adds resin to its formulation and tests it in the final composition. Ready-to-use primers, enamels and clearcoats are intended for application to a prepared surface.

Can a resin be selected solely by industry?

No. The industry provides an initial shortlist; the specific product is selected using the matrix, current raw material, process, criteria and available batch documentation.

Where can I find ready-to-use protective coatings?

The ready-to-use coatings page describes a system comprising epoxy primer, polyurethane primer surfacer, enamel and clearcoat for vehicles. Materials can be requested together or separately.

Can my current resin be replaced one-to-one?

Only after laboratory comparison and, where necessary, production trials. Even similar quality-documentation values do not guarantee identical compatibility or dosage.

What should I include in an enquiry?

For resin selection, describe the formulation, raw material function, current material and test criteria. For a ready-to-use coating, specify the object, metal, surface preparation, service conditions, colour, area and application method.
