On the product

Role of Piroplast-2K 10–30

Binder component for coatings and process resin for rubber and other industrial compositions.

Binder component and modifier

In the coating, the resin is introduced into the film-forming composition to change its properties and cost. Alkyd resin synthesis and modification of the finished binder require different addition procedures. Reducing the proportion of oil or rosin is considered taking into account their chemical function. In rubber compounds, the impact on processing and tack during processing is evaluated.

  • First, compare with the raw materials used.
  • We select the grade according to the softening point;
  • Check colour, compatibility and processing behaviour;
  • Before purchasing, check the documentation for the available batch.

Applications

Suitable production applications

For manufacturers of coatings, rubber compounds, printing inks and foundry materials.

01 · Coatings

Alkyd coatings and drying oils

Piroplast-2K 10-30 is considered in the film-forming part of the formulation, where Gardner colour 5-8 and it is necessary to check the partial replacement of more expensive raw materials.

Test: compatibility, colour, application viscosity, drying, gloss and coating hardness.
02 · rubber products

Rubber mixtures and own compounding

The grade is evaluated as a processing resin or modifier for enterprises that independently prepare rubber compositions and can conduct laboratory mixing.

Test: dispersion, compound processability, tack and finished-product properties.
03 Paints

Printing inks for non-food applications

A product can be qualified as a binder component or modifier in systems where its colour and odour are acceptable. The type of printing and solvent system must be specified in the request.

In the test: solubility, compatibility, viscosity, colour, fixation and odour of the finished system.
04 Cast

Foundry forms and binder compositions

In foundries, the role of the resin is separately determined: an additive to the moulding mixture or a component of the binder composition. Selection depends on the current binder and pouring mode.

In the test: preparation of the mixture, formability, knockout and quality of the pilot casting.

Varieties

Six options for softening point

The range 10–30 describes colour. The working grade is additionally set by the softening point - it is selected according to the process and the required balance of properties.

Qualification

How to check resin before industrial procurement

A short technical cycle reduces the risk of buying the wrong grade and gives a comparable result for the technologist and the supply department.

01

Set the standard

Specify the current resin, specification and reason for finding a replacement: price, availability or required property.

02

Choose a grade

Compare the softening point, colour, acid number and process limitations.

03

Conduct a laboratory test

Compare control and trial formulations according to pre-approved indicators.

04

Confirm in production

After successful laboratory testing, check the process, finished product and incoming batch inspection.

Boundaries of application

Choosing the right grade

  • For transparent varnishes and very light decorative coatings, where Gardner colour 3-4 is required.
  • For food contact, lamination and other tasks with stringent odor requirements without separate qualifications.
  • When replacing the current resin, compare the compatibility, dosage and properties of the finished material.
  • Before delivery, agree on the grade, permissible deviations and requirements for documents.

FAQ

Purchase and trial questions

Characteristics, tests and conditions of order.

What is Piroplast-2K 10-30?

This is a C9 hydrocarbon resin with a colour of 10–30 on the iodine scale and Gardner 5–8. The grade is intended for primary selection in industrial coatings, rubber compounds, printing inks and foundries.

How to choose the softening point?

The choice is made according to the conditions of the process and the required properties of the finished system. For Piroplast-2K 10–30, grades 85–95, 95–105, 105–115, 115–125, 125–135 °C and 140 °C are available. Before the test, you need to check the available grade and documentation for a particular batch.

Is it possible to replace rosin or vegetable oil one to one?

Replacement requires consideration of the chemical function of the raw material. During the synthesis of alkyd resin, the composition and balance of reagents are recalculated; when modifying the finished binder, compatibility, dosage, drying and film properties are checked.

Is the resin suitable for transparent varnish or very light enamel?

Usually not. Gardner’s real range of 5–8 limits its use in transparent and very light decorative systems. If the colour is critical, report the acceptable value before requesting the sample.

What characteristics are guaranteed at delivery?

Requirements for the grade and allowable deviations are fixed in the agreed specification. The documentation contains the results of batch inspection. The properties of your finished material are confirmed by a formulation test.

How to request a price, documentation and sample?

Specify the application, current material or comparison product, target colour, softening point required, planned volume and region of delivery. After technical clarification, we agree on the available grade, documents, sample and commercial terms.
